Invasion of the Body Snatchers

"A small town doctor learns that the population of his community is being replaced by emotionless alien duplicates."
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049366/

The original version of this classic tale is either the best version or as good as the 1978 Donald Sutherland remake. It's an intelligent and creepy thriller that sees Kevin McCarthy driven mental by an invasion of alien pod people that duplicate the folk around him leaving everything the same but different! Hugely watchable, classy horror history.

5/5 quality 1/5 for scares

Insidious

"A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1591095/

Now this is a proper Halloween date night flick. Proper scary, lots of jump out of skin moments and opportunity to grab a loved one in the dark. Good performances from the cast, a nice bit of uneasy weirdness and a simple yet disturbing "bad guy".

4/5 for film quality     5/5 for scares and gropes

Cabin in the Woods

"Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/

Joss Whedon gives us a very clever and laugh out loud take on almost every horror film trick and in doing so kind of creates an ironic Scooby Doo movie. Highly recommended for film buffs and horror lovers, not really scary or an under the covers date flick, but it's got some cracking performances, decent effects and will leave you very satisfied.

5/5 for film quality              2/5 for scares/chances of a grope under the covers.
